Terry Black's
Our next BBQ adventure was one that was quick and easy, and almost completely different from Snow’s BBQ in every aspect except for the quality of the ‘que. Terry Black’s Barbeque, smack dab in the middle of Austin, emits a cloud of smoky meat smell over neighboring parks like Zilker park and Auditorium Shores. Michael and Mark Black, 28 year old twin brothers, are the masterminds behind the pit at this establishment. While they don’t have as many years as Tootsie does, not even combined between the two, they aren’t lacking any significant talent.
"TM BBQ TOP 50"!!!!!
We walked into Terry Black’s around 6:30 pm, planning on getting our ‘que on post work and celebrating my first day back in the working world! The line was epically shorter than Snow’s and we also were able to wait inside rather than out. While we snuck in at the perfect time, people quickly descended upon the establishment and created a line out the door. As we got in line, the menu choices really got our attention; most items were scrumptiously meaty and inviting, simply and divinely described, except one. “Cold Sausage Links” seemed to be an outlier, definitely not inviting me to get a pound of that.
Terry Black’s had a TON of sides! We had done some Instagram research pre BBQ trip, so we knew that they had some epic mac n’ cheese and cole slaw. Indeed, they did. Their huge Styrofoam (☹) tubs invited us to indulge on their sides, where we filled up on mac n cheese, cole slaw, peach cobbler, jalapenos, and a little tiny plastic-wrapped hunk of cheddar cheese, because who can resist tiny things?? Not me.
Maddie took this.
On to the meat. One of the twins sliced up 2 pounds of fatty brisket right in front of us, whipped out some jalapeno cheddar sausage, beef ribs, and gave us a sticker to document our visit. Tootsie didn’t disappoint and neither did the Black brothers. Again, we were very eager to eat our feast, and the meat sweats set in about 10 minutes into our venture. Seems like this is something we’ll have to get used to. As the summer heat begins to engulf us here in Austin, I have no doubt that our future adventures in spots like El Paso and Brownsville will bring even worse heat.
Case and point: Iain (striped shirt on the right) with a case of the meat sweats
In the end, Terry Black’s was definitely a positive experience. Delectable, fatty meat, great spicy sauce options, easy access in Austin and a quick line puts it high on my list, but, it is only our second out of fifty BBQ places to hit up. The classically southern meal instilled a chivalrous inspiration into the ‘que boys and, as we got up to leave, they hoisted their full bellies behind a stalled out car on Barton Springs and helped a couple to nearby safety. Go Boys!

Boys being nice!! What a surprise!
Sometimes we get carried away with ourselves and the barbecue sauce, so here's one of our creative pieces from the afternoon. Please, do not send nudes, especially post BBQ bods.
Peace, Love, Nudity
